Arcadia Girls Lead Initial Team Rankings for 2015

So we’re back with another round of team rankings for the new season – with a new twist.

Last season’s rankings awarded a point for each athlete or relay ranked in the Top 10 in the San Gabriel Valley.  Upon reflection, those rankings more or less paralleled championship meet rankings, and we already have a meet to figure that out.

This year’s rankings will use overall team quality and depth to determine likely dual meet strength.  And so, here they are…

Girls 2015 SGV Team Rankings

ArcadiaApachesArcadia begins 2015 where they ended last year. As usual, they are a strong team, with the ability to score in every event, and are especially strong in the sprints this year.  SGV newcomers Ayala are second, with special strength in the distances and field events.

Last year’s runner up Walnut, another well-balanced team, is off to a bit of a slow start with several top athletes yet to check in.  They are third, but the real noise so far have been Bonita and El Rancho, who have made big moves from last year’s rankings. So…

  1. 167 – Arcadia (1st in 2014)
  2. 147 – Ayala (new to the SGV)
  3. 140 – Walnut (2nd)
  4. 128 – Claremont (6th)
  5. 107 – Monrovia (7th)
  6. 102 – Glendora (3rd)
  7. 80 – Bonita (10th)
  8. 79 – El Rancho (NR)
  9. 79 – South Pasadena (4th)
  10. 77 – St. Lucy’s (11th)

Notes on the ranking after the jump

Ayala is included for the first time now that they are part of the otherwise all other all SGV Palomares League.  However, they are not yet part of the Athletic.net SGV ranking page, so I’ve added them into the rankings.

So what we did this time…

  • Use the top three ranked athletes for each school ranked among the top 45 in the SGV Rankings on Athletic.net.
  • Give 5 points to athletes ranked 1-9, 4 to 10-18, 3 to 19-27, 2 to 28-36 & 1 to those ranked 37-45.
  • Relays get 7 points for ranking 1-9, 5 for 10-18, & 3 for 19-27

These rankings are only based on the meets uploaded to Athletic. I’ve made sure every Invite meet has been included, and the dual meets with results published  at PrepCalTrack or Finished Results.

However, Coaches or their volunteers can input the results from their own dual meets to make sure their teams and athletes are recognized.
