Mission Valley #1 – Arroyo = 2 x 17

Arroyo ran very well at last Saturday’s Rosemead Invitational, and continued that good form with two dominating wins in the first Mission Valley League cluster meet.  The meet was held at Bonelli Park on a somewhat hilly 3 mile course.

The boys scored just 17 points on a 1-2-3-5-6-7-8 finish!  The were led by seniors Jesse Ramirez and Kurt Hake who were 1-2, both in 16:08 after missing their chance to run on Saturday due to a power failure canceling the senior races. Rosemead senior Jesse Gonzalez broke up the Knights with a 4th place, 16:37 result.  Erick Espitia (Jr, South El Monte) and Jayson Espinosa (So, Gabrielino) rounded out the Top 10 at 9th/16:53 and 10th/17:00, respectively.  Gabrielino were solidly second in the team race, with Rosemead edging out South El Monte for third.

The Arroyo girls also turned in the same 1-2-3-5-6 scoring sequence, with only one senior in their seven! Junior Raylene Martinez was the winner in 19:59.  Rosemead frosh Jessica Perez spoiled an Arroyo sweep with a 4th/20:24 finish and led her team to a solid second place finish.  South El Monte were easily third, led by junior Hannah Morales 7th/20:45.
