Hacienda #1 – Bonita & Los Altos Start Off Best

The seven team Hacienda League met for their first cluster meet on a hot Wednesday at Bonelli Park.  Running a slightly long version of the 3 mile Invite course, the Bonita girls took their first step to defending their league title while the Los Altos declared themselves to be the new boss of the league.

Marissa Scott (c)

In the girls race, the Bearcats used strong front running from defending league champ Marissa Scott, the winner in 20:28, along with an excellent 4th place from her sister Kailyn (21:22) and 21:40/6th place finish from rapidly improving Lexie Jackson to total 35.  They were pushed to the end by fast-rising Walnut, who tallied 43 points.  The Mustangs were led by an excellent 2nd place, 20:38 effort from frosh Anahi Betart, along with a key 7, 8 finish from frosh Rachel Shapiro (21:47) and soph Melanie Deciga (22:04).  Los Altos (3rd/64) was strong up front, with Krystal Martinez (5th/21:32), Bianca Hernadez (9th/22:10) and Brittany Aranda (10th/22:13), but their 4 & 5 were back to challenge the team leaders.

Diamond Bar rode a 41 second gap to fourth place, led by Kelly Kuo (17th/23:13).  Rowland was 5th, led by a strong 21:12, 3rd place from Courtney Canchola.  Karissa Austin (22nd/23:29) paced 6th placed West Covina and Celina Kissinger (33rd/24:27) was best for Diamond Ranch.

Rowland's Nick Rivera

SGV 800m champ Nick Rivera shook off a tough night at Woodbridge to lead teammate David Galvez to an easy 1/2, 17:14/17:19 finish.  But Rowland‘s 3, 4, 5 could only finish 21, 22, 29 and Raiders ended up 3rd with 75 points.  Diamond Bar‘s James McCreary was third at 17:33, but the rest of the Brahmas were to far back and finished 6th.

Los Altos, second last year, to their first step to the top with a win today, paced by the senior pair of Jair Juarez (4th/17:37) and Bobby Villagomez (5th/17:52), with junior Mark Huizar 10th at 17:59.  Soph Dillon Nobbs was 6th/17:54 and led the rapidly improving Bearcats to a 2nd place finish.

Frosh Millen Trujillo had a big day to finish 9th in 18:02, leading Walnut to the all-important 4th place finish.  West Covina put Tyler Potts (8th/18:00) and Diego Duran (10th/18:07) in the top 10, but their 1:43 gap left them fifth.  Diamond Ranch was 7th, paced by Sergio Perez (35th/19:57).
